Menurut Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika, gempa yang dirasakan warga Bali cukup besar ini tidak berpotensi tsunami, sedangkan pusat gempa berada 143 km arah barat daya Nusa Dua, Bali. Kedalaman gempa disebutkan 10 kilometer, sedangkan gempa bumi terjadi pada 10.16 WIB dan dirasakan oleh tidak hanya Bali, tapi juga sejumlah daerah di Jawa Timur dan Nusa Tenggara Barat.

Saat ini tercatat ada 16 korban yang dirawat di rumah sakit sanglah denpasar bali, korban sebagian besar siswa smk negeri 2 Denpasar yang terkena genteng sekolah. Pemerintah menghimbau agar masyarakat bali waspada jika terjadi gempa susulan.
